Some important things to know about "nice dream if you can get it":
- it features lots of interactive singing from James and the amazing Peter Fuhry and the equally amazing Erin Shawn Hawkins.
- James wrote all of the songs. so if you think you hear parts of other, more famous songs ripped off in the fibers of james' tracks, don't pay any attention to these abhorrent, mistaken perceptions. they are lies put into your head by the devil.
- No one who voted for the Bush-Cheney ticket was in any way involved with this project. Down to the guy who made the guitar strings and the fellow who delivered the indian food. We checked. Hence our motto: "Don't blame nice dream if you can get it."
- Matt Hergert struck the drums with aplomb. Nathalie Chapple plucked the bass with pluck. Steve Kaye electrocuted his guitar. Erin Shawn Hawkins made a common table saw sound exactly like a cello. Peter Fuhry played his organ. And his keyboard. and Bryony Atkinson, who used to sing in Merrick, added her gorgeous voice to the song "My Darling Enemy." These phemomena are all apparent on the record. cd. record. whatever.
- The album was produced mainly by Paul Scriver, but also two songs were produced by Steve Kaye and another by Scott Fritz. All of whom are very talented men. And two of whom have VERY impressive heads of hair. What do we mean by "produced" anyway? What do we mean by "hair"?
- "nice dream if you can get it" was primarily recorded in the environment from whence the songs leapt forth from the ether. (i.e. James' former silverlake apartment. It was a beautiful apartment. James wishes he still lived in that apartment. Instead of his car. We're just kidding about the car part.)
- "Men are ruled by lust, Women are ruled by passion." The first insightful couplet is free. The rest cost money.
- James and his band wish to thank the greater los angeles metropolitan area for an exciting 18 months or so - including much airplay on kcrw and kxlu and fun shows with famous artists like Kristin Hersh, Frou Frou, Jackson Browne, Michelle Shocked and soon-to-be-famous Los Angeles artists like the 88, Metric, and Inara George.
